The Road To The 2024 U.S. Army Bowl: Kaleb Nelson
The next athlete we are highlighting on The Road to the 2024 U.S. Army Bowl is Kaleb Nelson. While the Signing Day Sports team was excited about his attendance and looking forward to his dynamic skill set being center stage in Frisco, we realized something. He might not have been aware of his selection…
Nelson, recognized as an ATH (athlete) on the football field, made waves at both the 2022 and 2023 U.S. Army Bowl National Combines in Frisco, Texas. His standout performances drew the attention of coaches and set the stage for what would become a remarkable chapter – and unlucky oversight – in his football career.
The turning point arrived at the 2023 Army Bowl game, where Director Rich McGuinness handed Nelson a ticket to the game—an early clue to what awaited him. Unaware of the impending announcement, Nelson left early to catch a flight, missing the halftime revelation on the jumbotron. A month later, JJ Kilgore from Signing Day Sports connected the dots and, over the phone, delivered the news of Nelson’s selection. The realization of being chosen for the Army Bowl game catapulted him into a whirlwind of social media recognition and celebration.
Blessed to be named a U.S ARMY ALL-AMERICAN 🙏🏼

Kaleb Nelson stands as a testament to the power of hard work and tenacity. The 5’11”, 185-pound athlete, boasting a remarkable 5.1 GPA, has etched his name into the history of the U.S. Army Bowl, a journey marked not only by his undeniable talent but by the unexpected twists that make the story uniquely his own.
Reflecting on the journey, Nelson remarked, “Yeah, it’s been really, really nice because, you know, you don’t get to see all your hard work pay off all the time – and especially today in the recruiting world. Like personally, I’m seeing a lot of kids that don’t have the talent I have but are getting offered left and right. And for me, I’ve always seen myself as the hardest worker in every room I step in ever since I was young, going to the gym late at night, hitting the field late at night, just trying to be the best player I could be. So when I got that news, it was nice to see it all finally paid off.”
His dream extends beyond the confines of the football field; Nelson envisions donning an NFL jersey and pursuing higher education at an Ivy League school. The ambition aligns seamlessly with his exceptional academic record and a 5.1 GPA, a testament to his commitment to both athletic and intellectual pursuits. Last week, right after our interview, Nelson received his first Division 1 offer to Army West Point (fitting huh?).

A student-athlete of Blair Academy, Nelson describes the program as “amazing”. The program boasts two current NFL players from the ‘18 and ‘19 graduating classes, respectively. The path ahead holds the promise of D1 offers and continued success – as evidenced by those who have come before Nelson. Greg Bowman, head football coach at Blair Academy, paints a picture that leaves little doubt about Nelson’s trajectory.
“Kaleb is one of the hardest working guys on our team,” said Bowman. “He is 100% committed to being the best version of himself on the field, in the weight room, and within our school community. I’m so happy for Kaleb to have earned this opportunity with the US Army Bowl game.”
As the Army Bowl approaches, and Nelson’s senior season begins, the team at Signing Day Sports looks ahead to what’s in store. If his first Division 1 offer last weekend is any indication, it will be quite the story to follow.
