Today, The Wire features Kegan Mitchell, a sophomore offensive lineman with Claudia Taylor Johnson High School in San Antonio. Check out his Signing Day Sports profile here. 

Mitchell is a three-sport athlete who, in addition to football, excels in wrestling and track. He’s already well-versed for an underclassman, as evidenced by his 3.6 GPA. He’s also very versatile for his position, as he is able to play at any point on the line. This season, he seamlessly transitioned from left guard to right tackle.

“Moving to right tackle was definitely a challenge. I basically needed to retrain my brain to work the right side,” said Mitchell. “But I’m proud to say that out of the entire season, I only allowed one sack from the right tackle position.”

It’s not common for an underclassman to already be exhibiting the ability to adapt to what’s needed by his team – and to do so with relative ease and success. And these abilities are not going unnoticed. For Mitchell, it’s a good sign to be receiving a game invite to a Division I FBS school. He was invited to North Texas’ homecoming game in October. 

Given how proactive Mitchell has been in the recruiting process and his prowess on the field, the sky’s the limit for the young lineman. He tells The Wire that he wants to continue to add to his playing weight this offseason while simultaneously increasing his strength and speed. But he’s not done there. 

“I want to continue to work my technique and be productive at each position on the line including center,” he mentioned. 

Most of his memories to this point in his career revolve around his physical dominance of the defensive line and the synergy of his offensive line unit. But a specific game stands out, according to him. 

“We played one of our rival teams and I was able to get 4 pancakes on the D-tackle,” said Mitchell.

In his free time, he likes graphic designing, gaming, and camping with his family. But according to his Twitter, he also spends LOTS of time in the gym and on the field.
